30 million euros a year for Mancini?

It would not be a surprise if Italy’s ex-team boss Roberto Mancini should soon be presented as the new team boss of Saudi Arabia: According to a report in the Italian “Gazzetta dello Sport”, the 58-year-old should receive an annual salary of 30 million euros if confirmed.

The contract will run until the 2026 World Cup in the USA. Before that, Mancini is expected to lead the team to the Asian Cup, which Saudi Arabia last won in 1996. Mancini’s resignation as Italian team boss had recently come out of the blue and had caught the Italian FA on the wrong foot. Mancini had spoken of a lack of trust from the leadership of the association. Association President Gabriele Gravina immediately denied. Due to the offer from Saudi Arabia, the real reasons are probably more of a financial nature.

Buffon as Team Manager?

Italy have already found a successor in ex-Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti. The 64-year-old is likely to receive prominent support: world champion Gianluigi Buffon, who ended his active career in the summer, is said to support Spalletti as team manager.
