Jerusalem (CNN) A 3-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot by Israeli forces in the West Bank of the Jordan River died on the 5th. This was announced by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The deceased is Muhammad Haitham Al-Tamimi. He was shot in an Israeli settlement north of Jerusalem on the night of the 1st.

The father said he was visiting relatives with Tamimi.

“I mightn’t believe my eyes when I saw Muhammad. My son had been shot in the head and was covered in blood. I took him in my arms and realized that I too had been shot in the right shoulder. Immediately. The villagers came and put the two of us in a car, then an Israeli ambulance and a helicopter came and took Muhammad to an Israeli hospital.”

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said a 3-year-old child and a man were shot by troops responding to gunfire in a settlement. Israeli emergency services said at the time that they had treated two victims and resuscitated a child.

The child was then taken to an Israeli hospital by an IDF helicopter.

His father said he was visiting relatives with Tamimi at the time of the shooting.

“We regret that we have harmed non-combatants,” the IDF said in a statement on Thursday.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday condemned Tamimi’s murder as a “heinous crime once morest humanity” and called for an “urgent international investigation into this and other crimes of the murder of Palestinian children”.

The father was treated at a hospital in Ramallah and was discharged on the 4th. “I don’t feel any pain in my body. I feel too much pain in my heart,” he said.
