3 teenagers and 11 elders involved in tele-deception involving nearly a million

Three young men and women were arrested for participating in a telephone deception case. The case involved took place from November 21 to December 2. At least 11 elderly people (67 to 89 years old) were deceived and lost 985,000 yuan. An 89-year-old woman received a call earlier. The other party claimed to be the son of the mother-in-law, saying that she was required to pay a bail of 50,000 yuan due to involvement in a criminal case, and arranged for a friend to come to collect the money on her behalf. When the mother-in-law went to the bank to withdraw money last Friday (2nd), the alert staff suspected that she had been cheated and assisted in reporting the case.

Tsuen Wan Police District officers arrested a 17-year-old local boy suspected of being involved in the case at a unit in Lei Muk Shue Estate at about 4 p.m. on the same day. A unit in Ying Village arrested a 15-year-old local boy, and the three were involved in “conspiracy to defraud”. Two of them were suspected of recruiting and directing the 17-year-old boy to receive stolen money.
