Ukraine claims to have regained control of more than 3,000 square kilometers of territory following a swift counteroffensive once morest Russia.

Although the BBC has not been able to independently verify this information, as journalists have been denied access to the front, the Russian Defense Ministry has reported the withdrawal of its forces from three key cities.

If confirmed, the remarkable breakthrough means Kyiv forces have managed to triple their victories in just over 48 hours.

It would be the most significant change in the course of the war since the Russians withdrew from areas near the Ukrainian capital last April.

In this video, we tell you three keys to understand what this “lightning” counteroffensive entails and what is expected from Russia now.
