A study published in the journal Nutrition found that drinking three cups of chamomile tea daily can improve blood glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes.
The researchers, from the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, aimed to investigate how chamomile tea’s effects on blood sugar (a measure used to determine how much food affects blood sugar levels) and control of antioxidant levels in type 2 people.
Chamomile tea reduced the levels of HbA1c and insulin in the blood, in addition to a significant increase in the total antioxidant capacity, according to what Russia Today reported.
The researchers concluded: “Short-term intake of chamomile tea has beneficial effects on glycemic control and antioxidant status in patients with type 2 diabetes.”
However, the researchers note that a larger population sample and a longer intervention period would be necessary to demonstrate significant clinical improvements.
