Marylène contacted us via the orange Alert Us button. In 6 months, three accidents have taken place in front of his house. A situation that she can no longer bear… “Do we have to wait for a death to do something?”.
For the 3rd time in 6 months, a road accident occurred in front of Marylène’s house in Remouchamps. “The gentleman overtook the bend and ended his race in front of our house. He crashed into a van, our hedges, our mailbox…”.
Inconveniences, this time, minor. “It was 7:30 p.m., that’s when my children come back from football, what would have happened if they had been there?“. But Marylène has not always been so ‘lucky’.
“Morally it’s starting to get hard”
Indeed in June, a first accident occurred. The driver feels unwell and rushes into Marylène’s store, attached to her house. “It’s my complementary activity, I showed understanding this time, but it’s just not possible anymore”. A second accident occurs in September and there, it is its facade which is affected: “the person was under the influence of alcohol”. She has still not been reimbursed for this damage: “I’m waiting for the assurances of the opponents, but it’s not coming. It’s a very long time. Accidents are piling up… I’ve been patient but this is a scandal! Should we wait for a death to do something? “
“We wake up to screeching tires every night”
Marylène is supported by her neighbors and tenants, whose apartments are attached to the house “They are behind me, and ready to support my requests to secure the road. My little tenant must put earplugs to stop hearing the squealing of tires. I am afraid that she will leave the apartment but if she does , that’s quite normal.”
For the municipality of Remouchamps and the police of the area, something must also be done. But the road is a National, therefore managed by the Walloon region. Contacted by Marylène, they would have replied that “the road had never been a problem before“.
What does the Walloon Region say?
We contacted the SPW (Walloon Public Service), which is nuanced. “During our provincial road safety commission in September, we had no feedback from the police on this subject. On the other hand, we were contacted in the evening by the complainant. In view of the repetition of accidents, we will investigate and see what to do.”
Marylène hopes that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible “whatever the solution, i just want me and my family to be safe“.
A solution will be found as soon as the SPW and the police work together.
