29 Venezuelan migrants detained on a boat in Nicaragua

The procedures were carried out in the week and were announced this Saturday.

Two boats occupied by 31 migrants, mostly Venezuelans, and five Nicaraguan crew members, were detained by the Nicaraguan Naval Force while they were moving in the Caribbean Sea without documents, authorities reported this Saturday.

The Nicaraguan military intercepted the boats in two operations carried out last Wednesday and Thursday northeast of Corn Island, an island located regarding 60 kilometers east of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, the Naval Force reported.

According to the military report, the two boats were occupied by 31 migrants, of these, 29 with Venezuelan nationality, 1 Ecuadorian and 1 Peruvian.

Eight minors were also traveling in the two groups, according to official information.

In its informative note, the Nicaraguan Army only identified the Nicaraguans Adán Sergio Sjogreen Jacoby, 44 years old; Alberto Abraham Reyes, 41 years old; Ariel Kenly Williangton Garth, 32; Henry Clement Gonzalez; 27 years old; and Cannan Denzel Downs Carthrell, 24.

“The migrants were provided with primary medical attention, later they were handed over, together with the crew members and the boats, to the corresponding authorities,” indicated the Nicaraguan Armed Forces.
