The match between the Giallorossi hosts and Roberto Mancini’s Inter is scheduled for 29 September 2007 at the Olimpico in Rome. In retrospect it is the second most important match of the season, even if we couldn’t have known at the time. Because the Romans will finish second very close to Biscione, saved after the elimination of Liverpool which will become a sort of sword of Damocles.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic wore the Nerazzurri. Indeed, the red and white, with the commemorative Inter shirt for the Centenary, with the Milan Shield. A goal from Ibra unblocked the ball, on a penalty kick, with an equalizer from World Champion Simone Perrotta, in the 54th minute. The reaction, vehemently, was a knockout: first a scissors kick from Hernan Crespo made it 2-1, then Julio Cruz scores the third goal. Curiosity, both came off the bench. Then it’s Ivan Cordoba, halfway through the second half, who drops the poker for the final 4-1.
It’s an Inter that wins by a landslide and launches itself to the top of the table. Both the formation and the substitutions were spot on, with Giuly’s expulsion however making the difference, leaving the Giallorossi with ten men for sixty minutes. On the Giallorossi bench was the current Roma coach, Luciano Spalletti, who will remain there for another two years.
