Southeast Asian air tickets that are cheaper than round-trip tickets to Jeju Island are appearing one following another.

According to Naver Airlines on the 5th, when the departure period is August, the vacation season, a round-trip ticket for Incheon-Bangkok starts at 293,730 won, Incheon-Cebu starts at 333,800 won, and Incheon-Da Nang starts at 254,418 won.

The Gimpo-Jeju route can be purchased for 50,000 won depending on the schedule, but flights during convenient travel times are priced at 200,000 to 300,000 won.

The reason that Southeast Asian airline tickets are getting cheaper is because domestic travel demand for Jeju Island is still high due to the re-spread of COVID-19, and low-cost carriers (LCCs), which do not operate smoothly on main routes to China and Japan, are preferentially increasing routes available (Southeast Asia). see.

In fact, Jeju Air has increased its Bangkok routes to 14 flights a week since July, Clark, Manila, and Cebu routes seven times a week, and Bohol routes four times a week.

Jin Air also increased its flights to Cebu, Kota Kinabalu, and Da Nang sequentially from the end of June to seven flights a week, and from the 22nd of last month, increased the number of flights to Phuket to seven flights a week.

The Bangkok route was increased to 13 flights a week, and the B777-200ER with 393 seats was used for routes to Guam, Clark and Kota Kinabalu.

T’way Air has been operating Bangkok routes seven times a week since last month, and Da Nang routes up to two round trip flights. Kalibo and Cebu routes are also being expanded to 7 flights a week, and all airlines are offering various discount promotions.

An industry official told Hankyung.com, “As the supply of routes that had not been operated until now started once more, the price has increased and the price has become cheaper.” .

Regarding the high price of air tickets to Jeju Island, he explained, “The price has not changed significantly because the number of flights to Jeju Island can no longer be increased and it is operating at its maximum.”

Regarding the fact that ticket prices on major long-distance routes such as the Americas and Europe do not go down, he pointed out, “There is a limit to increasing the number of long-distance routes because it takes time for maintenance of large airliners that have not been operated due to the shortage of manpower and the corona epidemic.” .

If you look at the price of a round-trip flight ticket between Incheon and New York in August, most of them are in the range of 3 to 4 million won, and a round-trip ticket to Paris is also being traded at 2.5 to 3.5 million won.

This is because major long-distance routes such as the Americas and Europe have a certain level of fixed demand such as overseas students, business, and visits to relatives of Koreans, but supply is insufficient.

An official said, “It is not possible to accurately predict the ticket price due to the re-spreading of the corona, but it is not likely to change significantly for the time being.”
