28-year-old fatally injured in motorcycle accident on Styrian mountain road

This was announced by the Styrian State Police Directorate on Thursday. The man fell onto the road shoulder in Klosterwinkel and then into a rain gutter there. He then crashed into a power pole. The man died at the scene of the accident.

The Carinthian was riding his motorcycle on Hebalmstrasse (L606) from Deutschlandsberg towards his home state at around 5.30 p.m. For reasons that are currently unclear, he lost control of his machine in a left-hand bend. A witness administered first aid and tried to resuscitate the injured man until paramedics and the crew of the Christophorus 12 rescue helicopter took over. The emergency services ultimately tried in vain to save the man.

The 28-year-old who died in the accident is the second motorcycle accident victim this week. Just on Monday evening, a 24-year-old man from Leibnitz died on his motorcycle in his home district. The Styrian accident statistics currently show 37 traffic fatalities, the State Police Directorate announced. The figures are in the range of the years 2022 (43) and 2023 (37).
