The suspect, aged 27, turned himself in to the police on Tuesday evening and admitted his responsibility in the victim’s death, without saying more, the Louvain prosecutor’s office said Thursday followingnoon.
On Sunday, December 24, shortly before 4:00 p.m., a woman contacted the local police in Leuven following discovering the lifeless body of her companion, aged 43, in his apartment on Edelzangerslaan in Kessel-Lo. The autopsy showed that the victim died from blows to the head.
“On Tuesday, December 26, late in the evening, a 27-year-old man presented himself to the Louvain police claiming to want to surrender because of the acts committed on December 24,” declared the prosecution. “He was arrested and interviewed for the first time by the federal judicial police. During this interrogation, the suspect invoked his right to remain silent.”
The suspect was questioned once more Thursday morning, but once once more invoked his right to silence.
“He was presented in the followingnoon to the investigating judge, who decided to place him under arrest warrant for murder,” added the prosecution. “He admitted being responsible for the death of the victim, but did not wish to make any further statements. He will appear before the council chamber on Tuesday.”
