A 27-year-old man from Burgenland died in a fire in a minibus in Großwilfersdorf (Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district) on Saturday. The bus was parked in a fishing camp and the 27-year-old had slept in the vehicle. The fire is likely to have broken out in a mobile, gas-powered heater, the police said in a broadcast.
The 27-year-old went fishing with a friend at a pond. In the followingnoon, the 27-year-old lay down on his bus to sleep. At around 8:00 p.m., his acquaintance looked following the man from Burgenland and found him with serious injuries in the burned interior of the bus. Despite immediate first aid measures, the man died on the spot.
As the investigation into the cause of the fire revealed, the heater was placed directly behind the passenger seat. Because of the radiated heat and the small distance to the seat, the fire may have started.
