Twenty-seven Malian soldiers were killed and 33 injured, including 21 seriously, on Friday in an attack on the Mondoro security post, in the circle of Douentza in the center of the country, the government of the Republic of Mali announced in a statement. .
The government spokesman, Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga, said “That the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) from the Mondoro security post in the circle of Douentza reacted vigorously to a complex attack with the use of vehicle bombs, in the morning of Friday March 4, 2022, around 5:30 a.m.
“The combing of the Malian special forces immediately deployed in the area made it possible to find and neutralize 47 terrorists in the morning”, reads the official press release. The same source reports a provisional toll of 27 dead, 33 injured including 21 seriously, and 7 missing among the Malian soldiers, as well as material damage.
Maïga further specified that “at the beginning of the followingnoon, the FAMa continued their combing of the terrorist sanctuaries by neutralizing 23 terrorists”, before presenting the government’s condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
The Malian executive wanted to reassure the entire population “that all measures will be taken to arrest and bring to justice the perpetrators of this despicable and tragic act”.
The government spokesperson assured in this sense that “the offensive dynamic of search and destruction of terrorist sanctuaries will continue unabated”.
