MINISTER of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita touched on the existence of 26,000 containers that had been stuck at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta and Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, for 3 months. Agus admitted that he wanted to know the contents of the containers to take the right policies to protect the domestic industry.

Agus conveyed this along with the emergence of documents from the temporary review results of the Overseas Rice Procurement Activity Review Team which stated that there were problems with import documents because they were considered improper and incomplete. This is suspected of causing demurrage costs or fines in the customs/port areas of North Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, Banten and East Java amounting to Rp294.5 billion.

“As an industrial supervisor (I) have an interest in knowing what is in the 26,000 containers. We have an interest because we are required to prepare policies to mitigate what goods enter the country,” said Agus, Wednesday, (10/7).

Agus said that he had communicated with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani to request data related to the contents of the 26,000 containers that were stuck at Tanjung Priok and Tanjung Perak Ports.

“We have communicated (with Sri Mulyani), but there has been no response,” said Agus. (Nov)
