On the 25th, a very heavy rain of 78 mm fell in Gifu City in one hour until 6:35 pm, which was the largest hourly rainfall in August in the history of observation, causing heavy rain in Gifu Prefecture.
As a result, the Sakai River flooded the Takada area of ​​Gifu City, flooding the surrounding roads.
Also, in Uguisudani-cho, Gifu City, earth and sand flowed from the hill behind Uguisudani High School, and one employee who was involved in the removal work was slightly injured, and a nearby tunnel was temporarily closed to traffic.
In Kakamigahara City, the water level of the Shinsakai River temporarily exceeded the “flood danger water level”, and evacuation orders were issued to some households.
On the morning of the 26th, it was confirmed that the right bank of the Shinsakai River in the “River Environment Paradise” in Kakamigahara City was scooped out for 10 meters and part of the bridge leading to the parking lot had collapsed.
Also, at Uguisudani High School, where the earth and sand flowed into the grounds, they were busy removing the earth and sand.
Mud marks remained even on the window glass on the second floor of the school building, and the trees that had been knocked down were rushing to the immediate vicinity of the school building.
Kazuhiro Minamitani, vice principal, said, “I was very scared when the earth and sand flowed in. Since the safety of the students is our number one priority, we are cooperating with the local government that manages the mountain behind us to prevent this from happening in the future as well as removing the earth and sand. We will continue to take preventive measures,” he said.
According to Gifu Prefecture, due to the heavy rain, 10 houses in Gifu City and Kakamigahara City were confirmed to be damaged by subfloor flooding.
