“Exceptional to more of a title! »
Sport at the service of tourism is the very essence of the Mellita Festival. After an interruption of four years, this Festival was finally able to take place last week. For four days, from Thursday to Sunday, the island of Djerba lived to the rhythm of the Mellita Festival.
The traditional race of old feluccas in Sidi Jemour, the Olympian strides (8 km for all), the International Petanque Tournament in Mellita “la francophonie quiroul” and a half-marathon for the most daring made up the sports program.
Lhe culture was not forgotten with the holding, on Saturday, of the cultural and musical evening of the heritage of the Djerbian song, “Nouba Mellitienne”. The symposium-debate on the theme of the Francophonie “reality and horizons” closed the festival on Sunday evening. “We were delighted to be able to organize the Mellita festival following four years of interruption due to the Covid pandemic. It was exceptional in more ways than one. In view of the massive presence of the participants and the inhabitants of the island, our objectives were largely achieved. The choice of the date of the festival is not fortuitous. Among other things, it marks the beginning of the high tourist season and is held as part of Heritage Month. As organizers, we are over the moon. There was good media coverage and the party was there all over the island and not just in Mellita,” said Azdine Ben Yacoub, one of the festival organizers.
