25 years following its last adaptation, the crazy universe of Blade Runner is entitled to a brand new video game signed Annapurna.
Good news for fans of the Blade Runner saga: Annapurna Interactive, the publisher of award-winning video games that includes Stray and Outer Wilds to its credit, has partnered with Alcon Interactive Group to develop the all-new Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth franchise game for 25 years. Very little information is given regarding the scenario of the title, except that it will plant its frame between the first film and its sequel.
Annapurna Interactive’s game Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth brings the famous franchise back to games for the first time in 25 years.
Set between the original film and 2049, Blade Runner 2033 is set following the events of the Black Out and asks the question: what does a Blade Runner do when there are no more Replicants to hunt?
Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth will be the very first title from Annapurna Interactive’s in-house studio, directed by director Chelsea Hash, who has already worked on the excellent Solar Ash and What Remains of Edith Finch. The release date has yet to be revealed.
The last game to make an impression was Blade Runner on PC, released in 1997. This true masterpiece of the 7th art from Westwood Studios offered us the role of Ray McCoy, a colleague of Rick Deckard, which offered a new very interesting vision of this universe. The game was entitled to an enhanced edition in 2022, which was moderately well received. It even appeared in the TOP 10 of the worst games of the year 2022 according to Metacritic.
And a series for Amazon Prime Video
At the same time, remember that the Alcon Television Group also recently announced the pre-production of a live action series entitled Blade Runner 2099 for Amazon Prime. The details are still being kept secret but we know that it will take place 50 years following the events of the second film. The script was entrusted to Silka Luisa (Halo on Paramount+), who also serves as showrunner and executive producer. She works in particular from the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, published in 1982. At her side, we will find Ridley Scott, the director of the first film being in fact part of it as executive producer.
