The woman entered an apartment building on Alaudagasse shortly before 5:45 p.m. – almost at the same time as an unknown person. Suddenly the man grabbed her and tried to pull her pants down from behind. “She fought tooth and nail, which is why he let go of her,” reported spokesman Markus Dittrich to the APA.
When questioned by the police on Friday, the 25-year-old mother of an infant and a small child stated that she held the door open for the stranger as he entered the staircase, whereupon he thanked her. Then she felt “suddenly a jolt” while walking to the elevator. The man then pushed her to the ground while the infant was still in the stroller. However, due to her fierce resistance and loud cries for help, he let go of her.
According to Dittrich, the State Criminal Police Office, South Branch, is now investigating suspected attempted rape. The Syrian woman described the perpetrator to investigators as a man regarding 180 centimeters tall, around 35 years old, with a dark complexion and black hair. According to her, he was also wearing a jogging suit. The woman was slightly injured during the attempted rape.
