Amateur football was hit by sad news this Saturday evening. Winkel Sport B goalkeeper Arne Espeel died aged 25 shortly following his game in the second provincial in West Flanders.
Facing Westrozebeke, Arne saved a penalty in the second half, but felt unwell just following his stoppage and collapsed, reports the Flemish press. The emergency services quickly arrived on site to provide cardiac massage, under the eyes of Arne’s relatives. It was on the way to the hospital that the young man died.
“We are all extremely affected,” reacted the team in comments reported by Het Laatste Nieuws. “He has played with us since his youth and is particularly appreciated by all. That something like this should happen to such a young man is beyond comprehension. »
