It is “a high-risk initiative” which is beginning to bear fruit, welcomes Tommaso Calarco, physicist in charge of the Quantum Flagship, the quantum plan launched in 2018 by the European Commission. “We are really surprised by how much we have achieved”, he continues. Arrived at the end of its launch phase at the end of 2022, the program created for a period of ten years and endowed with an envelope of one billion euros “has already come further than we expected”, assures the scientist, considered a world pioneer in his field. A report, published at the end of January, draws up an initial assessment of this first stage, endowed by the Horizon 2020 program with an envelope of 193 million euros.
