23-year-old dies in carbide shooting in the Netherlands

The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. Saturday in Diessen, not far from the Belgian border.

About forty people attended the demonstration which went wrong. The victim was taken in critical condition to hospital where she died.

Carbide shooting is all regarding getting a blast out of calcium carbide. The practice is listed as intangible heritage in the Netherlands. The tradition, of Germanic origin, is well anchored in the north and east of the territory. Carbide is not considered a firework and is therefore not subject to the same legislation.
