Despite measures such as extending the lockdown in Shanghai, the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in mainland China recorded an all-time high for a day following day.
According to the National Health Commission of China on the 7th, as of the previous day, there were 1,284 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the mainland in 31 provinces across the country, and 21,711 asymptomatic cases were reported.
In China, asymptomatic infected people are separated from confirmed cases and statistics are issued separately, but by international standards, they are all classified as confirmed cases. On the 6th, the number of confirmed cases in the mainland reached 22,995, the highest ever.
The number of daily infections on the mainland is 16,411 on the 4th and 18,149 on the 5th, breaking new highs every day.
Among each region in China, Jilin Province had the highest number of confirmed cases, with 890 new cases. Next, 322 people came from Shanghai.
The largest number of asymptomatic cases on the mainland was in Shanghai, with 19,660. The number of asymptomatic infections in Jilin is 1546.
The National Health Commission announced that it will maintain the ‘zero corona’ policy for the time being as the spread continues in Shanghai and Jilin Province.
As the cumulative number of infected people in Shanghai surpassed 100,000, authorities are rushing to establish temporary quarantine facilities to accommodate mild cases and asymptomatic cases.
On the 5th, the Shanghai Municipal Government officially announced that it would postpone the lifting of the lockdown. As the extension period is not specified, it is considered that the country has entered into a total blockade indefinitely.
