The Maison Trestler from City of Vaudreuil-Dorion celebrates its 225th anniversary with the 3rd concert of the summer season to be held on Wednesday, July 12 at 8 p.m. Pianists Isabelle David and Silvie Cheng will take part.

More than 15 years ago, a great friendship began between Silvie Cheng and Isabelle David during a summer internship at Orford Music. Today, their common passion for the piano brings them together on stage.

Isabelle David

Quebec pianist Isabelle David made her debut as a soloist with the Orchester symphonique de Montréal at the age of 17 and will continue this career as a soloist with the symphony orchestras of Torùn (in Poland), Longueuil, Drummondville, ‘Estuaire and Trois-Rivières, as well as with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and several other orchestras. In addition, she tours across Canada with violinist Yolanda Bruno with whom she recorded, in 2019, the album The Wild Swans featuring the music of eleven leading female composers. In addition to collaborating with soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan (Equilibrium Young Artists), she performs as a soloist and chamber musician in prestigious venues. Over the years, she has won numerous awards on the Canadian music scene.

After studying in Montreal and Boston and a career well underway, Isabelle David is doing her doctorate at the University of Montreal from 2016 to 2020. She places, at the heart of her approach, the piano literature of Auguste Descarries, a brilliant composer and interpreter from Quebec. This choice was inspired by his grandmother, Louise Lussier, who had been a pupil of Descarries. Under the supervision of Jean Saulnier, Isabelle David therefore worked, during her four years of doctorate, on editing the manuscripts of Auguste Descarries deposited in the archives of the Université de Montréal. In addition, in 2022 she released a solo album entirely devoted to the composer’s piano works: entitled Souvenirs d’Auguste Descarries, the CD was nominated for the Prix Opus.

Silvie Cheng

Born in Tokyo, Chinese-Canadian pianist Silvie Cheng has performed in prestigious concert halls on five continents. Over the years, she has distinguished herself by winning first prizes in the Thousand Islands and Heida Hermanns International Piano Competitions, the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition and numerous national competitions. A passionate chamber musician, she tours extensively as the pianist of the Cheng2 Duo alongside her cellist brother, Bryan. Together they released a trilogy of critically acclaimed albums on the German label audite: Russian Legends (2019), Violonchelo del fuego (2018) and Violoncelle français (2016). At the same time, his artistic partnership with violist Georgina Rossi explores the music of South America; their first album of contemporary Chilean music, Mobili, was released on New Focus Recordings in 2020, and a second album of Brazilian music will be released in 2023.

Silvie is passionate regarding connecting with the next generation, she is the Artist-Teacher of the Manhattan School of Music Distance Learning Program and Living Arts Collaborative. Highlights of the 2022/2023 season include tours of Vancouver Island, Belgium and throughout the Northwestern United States, as well as recitals at Munich Gasteig, Orford Music and Port Hope Friends of Music, as well as an Artist Fellowship from the National Arts Club in New York, where she currently resides.
