The My Book Duo therefore increases to 22 TB for a retail price of €691. The price may seem high, but it should be understood that 22TB hard drives are still rare and the public price is not necessarily close to the price you will pay in the store. Currently, the highest capacity in the My Book range is 18 TB (510 € in public price) and Amazon offers it for 411 €.

In addition to this 22 TB model, Western Digital also sells a 44 TB My Book Duo. As its name suggests, it actually contains two hard drives in RAID, with the choice between RAID0 and RAID1. In the first case, the data is placed alternately on the two disks for doubled capacity and increased speeds. This solution has the drawback of offering fairly weak security: if a hard drive fails, all data is lost. In RAID1, data is stored on each disk and the useful capacity is therefore equivalent to that of a disk – 22 TB – but the loss of a hard disk does not imply the loss of data. The 44 TB My Book Duo is announced at €1,700. As with the first, there is a variant with two 18 TB HDDs, officially sold for €1,033 (€1,013 at Amazon).

In both cases, the capacity/price ratio is not necessarily to the advantage of the 22TB versions, but if you need a large capacity, it is the current best choice. Finally, note that the My Books are delivered with a USB-A cable while the My Books Duo are USB-C.
