A 22-year-old father of three was charged with first-degree murder for the death of his 3-week-old baby, whom investigators accused him of shaking to death in North Carolina, according to court documents.
Noah Bliss was arrested in October and a search warrant revealed the young father reportedly brought his “blue” baby, Gunner Bliss, to a nurse days before the child died, local news outlet WRAL reported.
Bliss allegedly “did not appear to show any emotion,” despite the child’s mother, Savannah Bliss, appearing quite upset, the outlet reported.
Gunner and his twin Madelyn were born prematurely on Sept. 15, just three weeks before Gunner was brought into the hospital with fatal head trauma.
According to Savannah Bliss, her husband was watching Gunner and the couple’s other child, a 1-year-old, in a hospital room while she was on a different floor visiting Madelyn in intensive care, according to WRAL.
The mother said she was told by hospital staff that Gunner’s injuries indicate he had been shaken, the outlet reported.
According to the search warrant, Noah Bliss called the sheriff’s office days before the child’s death and told them he had been rocking the baby and might have done it too hard.
He then allegedly got in his car and told Savannah Bliss he was leaving for Florida because he did not want to be jailed for murder, WRAL reported.
A trial date has not yet been set, but his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 12, according to court records.
