21st Natural Park Festival: Belgian Ricochet Championship and More in Neufchâteau

It makes you smile and yet nothing is more serious than this announcement made by Donatien Liesse, the director of the Haute-Sûre Forêt d’Anlier Natural Park: “We racked our brains to put together an original program for this 21st Natural Park festival which takes place this year on September 24 in the lake valley in Neufchâteau. We focused our thinking towards sport, because it is one of the strong axes of this city. And when someone proposed between other things (read the program below) to organize a Belgian ricochet championship, everyone laughed. Then, we said to ourselves, ‘why not?’ And that’s how this activity, which exists in other countries and not here, was included in the program. As soon as the idea was launched, we received the support and collaboration of the sports clubs, the center sports, but also member municipalities of the Park, and many Chestrolaise associations.”

The director specifies how important this festival is for the organizers who can in this way meet the inhabitants who make up this territory which brings together seven communes (Bastogne, Vaux-sur-Sûre, Fauvillers, Habay, Léglise, Martelange and Neufchâteau), i.e. a population total of more than 50,000 inhabitants.

Ten years since Neufchâteau has been affiliated with the Natural Park

And if Neufchâteau was chosen to be the scene of this new edition of the festival, it is partly because it has now been ten years since this town joined the Natural Park, as its mayor François Huberty confirms: “In ten years, this association has contributed a lot to the development of our territory in terms of tourism, but also in terms of agriculture. I will cite for example the creation of the Ardennes spelled sector, this typically Ardennes cereal which had disappeared from our lands , at least the pure varieties.”

We will indeed remember that this sector succeeded in bringing together four farmers, including Simon Menot, from the Abreuvoir farm, in Tournay (Neufchâteau).

“The day of September 24 will begin with three themed walks including mushroom picking,” explains Frida Bajrami, communications manager at the Park. She insists that the party is a family one. Many activities revolve around the theme of water and are available in sporting, cultural and of course festive aspects.
