The 21st Festival des Heures d’orgue began on July 5, and every Wednesday this summer, until August 30, a free concert is offered in the superb Saint-Caprais cathedral in Agen.
Organized by the Marc de Ranse Institute (pianist, organist, choirmaster, choirmaster and composer, born in 1881 at the Château de Ranse in the town of Aiguillon and died in 1951 in Agen), this cultural event is now a must. , and carried by passionate volunteers, like the first of them, Jérôme Chabert, titular organist of the cathedral of Agen for twenty years and director of the auditorium of Prayssas.
“Our festival, he says, attracts several thousand listeners each summer; it strives to highlight the exceptional instrumental heritage of the cathedral and to make heard a large repertoire performed by prestigious musicians.” French but also foreign artists come to interpret on these majestic organs the great works associated with this impressive instrument (those of Bach in particular), but beyond the classical works, the Hours of the Organ allow you to discover less famous composers, and music more modern (until 1930). Each edition, therefore, has its share of surprises.
What regarding the 2023 program? That he is once more very rich, we present him every week in our columns. Thus, on July 12 we will be able to listen to the soprano Katia Anapolskaya accompanied by Slava Chevliakov, on July 19 the baritone Geoffroy Allix with the organist Pierre Cambourian, on July 26 a Venetian organist, a trumpet and organ concert on August 2, etc. Every Wednesday in the summer (concerts at 5 p.m.) admission is free, and a hat passes among the public: a quest for a good cause, since without this recipe the festival might not exist…
