21-year-old strangled German policeman until he lost consciousness

As the Osnabrück public prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday, police officers were called to a fight in the pub district of Meppen at around 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. Two officers then pursued the 21-year-old who they named as a suspect.

However, in the station area, a police officer encountered the man alone. A scuffle ensued, during which the 21-year-old put the officer in a headlock and choked him until he lost consciousness. Only when another police officer arrived did the man let go and run away. However, he was arrested by other officers after massive resistance.

At the police station, he attacked the officers again, who reportedly had to put a lot of effort to restrain him. According to the authorities, the police officer who was attacked was in critical condition and was injured. The public prosecutor’s office therefore assumes that the police officer had the intent to kill.

An investigating judge therefore issued an arrest warrant for the 21-year-old on Saturday for attempted murder and other crimes. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the man has multiple previous convictions for violent crimes, and numerous other investigations are underway against him, primarily for violent crimes.
