Prime Minister Amadou Ba but also opponents Khalifa Sall and Karim Wade (and 6 other candidates) had validated their sponsorships from the first exam last week. Twelve others were drafted for catch-up, including Idrissa Seck, who came second in 2019, but also the former Minister of Agriculture and majority dissident Aly Ngouille Ndiaye. Or the former chief of staff and very close to Macky Sall, Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne. And Malick Gakou, another dissident from the majority and former Minister of Sports.

Among those who failed, 3 former prime ministers including Aminata Touré who failed to validate the minimum of 44,231 sponsorships required. The big absentee from this list remains Ousmane Sonko, disqualified for incomplete file but three of his lieutenants validated this first step including plan B, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. But also Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, and the former minister Habib Sy sponsored by deputies from the ex-Pastef.

Finally, only two women passed this first sponsorship milestone, the gynecologist Rose Wardini and the entrepreneur Anta Babacar Ngom.

What remains now is the examination of the other documents in the file, such as proof of payment of the deposit of 30 million CA francs, the criminal record and the tax situation. The Constitutional Council has until January 20 to do so and publish the final list of candidates
