Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Sports, revealed the details of the bid to host the 2027 African Nations.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set September 27 as the date for choosing the organizing country for the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision in this regard will be taken at a meeting of the Executive Office in Cairo.
The Minister of Sports said via Sada El Balad: “We are studying the matter in cooperation with the Olympic Committee, especially in light of our desire to host the 2036 Olympics. We have the best road networks currently and there is a monorail linking the different regions, so we will not need to build all of that because it already exists.”
He added, “The sports city has been completed and we have a distinctive infrastructure. Therefore, the file that we will submit will already be ready. Therefore, we do not need to spend 80% of the costs, and what we need is only 20% of the operating expenses, and this can be obtained with returns from the organization.”
Regarding the league competition, he explained, “The Egyptian League is strong and we are working to reach the highest level. We have granted all powers to the Club Association, with the Football Association devoting itself to managing the affairs of the national teams. We follow sports affairs in general.”
He stressed, “We aim for the Olympic team to appear strongly in the Paris Olympics. I hope Mohamed Salah will be present, but this is a purely technical matter.”
He continued, “We spent one billion and 100 million pounds over two years to support individual games and prepare for the Paris Olympics. We will also need additional costs for delegations’ travel.”
He concluded, “We have 41 Egyptian players who qualified for the Paris Olympics, and our goal is to obtain 8 to 10 medals in the 2024 Olympics.”
