SETIF – The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Algeria, Mr. Li Jian, declared, Tuesday in Sétif, that the year 2024 will be that of “harvesting the fruits of cooperation between his country and Algeria, and which will also be rich in new achievements.
“The economic and strategic partnership between the People’s Republic of China and Algeria, which has entered a new phase, now has new opportunities following the visit to China last July of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” underlined Mr. Li Jian, recalling that the two heads of state jointly developed an important plan for the development of traditional friendly relations between the two countries.
The Chinese ambassador, who participated in a forum bringing together Chinese and Algerian operators, organized in the Dome room, at Park Mall, also stressed that mutual trust between the two countries “has reached new heights” and that the Economic and commercial cooperation has grown significantly, with total bilateral trade having exceeded 10 billion US dollars for the first time in 2023.
“Algeria, which is characterized by political stability, a privileged geographical location and a high-quality market which has attracted overseas investments from Chinese companies, is considered by the latter as one of the preferred destinations” declared the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Algiers, noting that certain companies from his country have been operating in Algeria for more than 40 years.
“The mosque of Algiers, the East-West highway, as well as the stadiums, social housing and others represent all milestones in the development of Algerian cities, and a living and edifying example of mutual cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Algeria,” added Mr. Li Jian.
The latter also stressed that his country was willing to continue to participate in the realization of Algeria’s new vision, to contribute to promoting the diversification of the economy and local industry.
The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China said he was “delighted” to note that the wilaya of Sétif was “at the forefront of practical cooperation between China and Algeria”, recalling that Sétif is a “important economic, industrial and commercial crossroads in Algeria, with great development potential in the fields of agriculture, mining resources, industry, tourism and culture”.
Mr. Li Jian underlined, in this context, that Chinese companies have invested more than 26 million dollars in the wilaya of Sétif, providing a thousand employment opportunities with a total production value of nearly 10 billion dinars.
He also added that the blanket and electrical tool factories in which Chinese companies have invested in Sétif have responded to a need in the local industry and created an integrated production chain, promoting exports abroad. , which helped generate foreign exchange revenue for the wilaya.
The Algerian-Chinese Businessmen’s Forum saw the participation of 18 Chinese companies, more than 160 local companies, representatives of the ministries of Commerce and export promotion, Industry and pharmaceutical production, the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Investment and the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade, in addition to representatives of the sectors concerned.
The meeting gave rise to a detailed presentation on the potential and opportunities for investment in Algeria, in general, and in the wilaya of Sétif, in particular.
