2024 WEC Qatar Free Practice Session Results: Lynn Leads in Cadillac V-Series.R

The last free practice session of the 1812 km of Qatar, first round of the 2024 WEC, saw Alex Lynn (Cadillac V-Series.R n°2 – Cadillac Racing), associated with Sébastien Bourdais and Earl Bamber, set the best time in 1’40″667.

The LMDh have once once more monopolized the forefront since Porsche Penske Motorsport follows its American rival by 180 thousandths with the 963 n°5 of Michael Christensen – Frédéric Makowiecki – Matt Campbell.

Hertz Team JOTA completes the top 3 with the 963 n°12 of Norman Nato, Will Stevens and Callum Ilott, clocked at 0.454.

Peugeot places itself as the best LHM team in this session with the fifth time of the 9X8 n°94 of di Resta – Duval – Vandoorne, half a second from the top of the hierarchy, behind the second Porsche 963 n°6 – Porsche Penske from Vanthoor – Estre – Lotterer.

The Shwartzman – Ye – Kubica trio lifted the first Ferrari 499P n°83 – AF Corse into 6th position ahead of the first official 499P n°51 of Pier Guidi – Calado – Giovinazzi.

Ninth place for the best Toyota GR010 Hybrid n°7 of Conway – Kobayashi – de Vries, last car in the same second as the n°2 Cadillac, nine tenths behind.

The Alpine A424s are ranked 12th and 13th at 1″5 and 1″8 ahead of the two BMW M Hybrid V8s – BMW M Team WRT, nearly 2″ behind, and the #63 Lamborghini SC63 – Lamborghini Iron Lynx. Followed by second Toyota GR010, the second Porsche 963 – Hertz Team JOTA and the Isotta Fraschini n°11, classified at 3″8.

Alex Riberas was the fastest in LMGT3 with the No. 27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 – The Heart of Racing, completing the benchmark time in 1’54″964. The two Ferrari 296 GT3s – Vista AF Corse continue their success performance with the 2nd and 3rd times for n°54 and n°55, at 53 thousandths and 0″2.

The #60 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 – Iron Lynx and the #777 Aston Martin – D’station Racing complete the top 5 in the class.

Note that the No. 77 Ford Mustang GT3 – Proton Competition did not set a time, remaining in its box following a single lap on the track during the session.

A red flag was put up following James Cottingham (#59 McLaren 720S GT3 EVO – United Autosports) went off the track at turn 5 following just under a quarter of an hour.

Qualifying will begin at 2 p.m. French time.
