The UCI World Tour stage race “Tirreno-Adriatico” was held in central Italy.

The 7th stage on the final day started and ended at San Benedetto del Tronto, which is the customary location for this race, went inland, ran for regarding 60km, returned to the start/arrival point, crossed the finish line, and ran for regarding 14km along the coastline. 154km, consisting of 5 laps. On this day as well, the wind was strong and the scenery was gray and covered with thick clouds.

If things go as usual, the final stage will be a battle between sprinters from each team, so Team Bahrain Victorious will have high expectations for Phil Bauhaus (Germany) to win the stage following winning the third stage sprint. Multiple climbs were added before the start of the lap, making it not an easy and flat stage, and sprinters who were unable to climb the stage were forced to drop out.

Bauhaus also fell behind the group before starting his lap, and Yukiya Shinshiro, who had been racing smoothly in the group, stopped at the direction of his team and waited for Bauhaus and tried to pull him back into the group, but the group had picked up the pace. It was difficult to catch up and Bauhaus chose to retire. Teammates Andrea Pasqualon (Italy) and Shinshiro, who had been waiting for Bauhaus, were forced to retire.

Although it was an unfortunate result of his retirement and not due to Shinshiro himself, he considered it his role within the team and prepared for the next race.

Comment from Yukiya Shinshiro:

“On the final day, the last 80km was flat, but it was a 70km climb from the start and 1,500m of elevation gain, so it was a stage that might not be described as simply flat. From the start, I was attacked, and I was able to escape by using my legs (force) rather than timing. The decision was made. The team that wanted to start the sprint immediately began to lead the race, and the group ran at a high pace without resting.

I had no problems today and was running smoothly, but on the last climb before starting my lap, Phil (Bauhaus) fell behind and I had to wait for him to pull me back into the group. However, he did not return to the main group, where the pace had increased, and Phil retired, so his own race ended there. It was a week of ups and downs, with the race ending in a disappointing manner on the final day.

I was feeling really good, so I’ll keep training like this for the next race! ”
