The candidates for this year’s presidential and vice-presidential elections are No. 1 Ke Wenzhe and Wu Xinying (People’s Party), No. 2 Lai Qingde and Xiao Meiqin (DPP), and No. 3 Hou Youyi and Zhao Shaokang (Kuomintang).
There are more than 19.54 million voters in Taiwan in this election. That means anyone who gets more than 9.77 million votes will definitely be elected.

Hou Youyi of the Kuomintang announced that he had lost the election and apologized to the people for failing to complete the political party rotation; Bloomberg quoted news as saying that the People’s Party would also declare defeat.

In the first hour of voting, Lai Qingde of the Democratic Progressive Party received more than 1.95 million votes, leading with a vote rate (38.9%). The other two candidates, Ke Wenzhe of the People’s Party, received 1.41 million votes (28.1%); Hou Youyi of the Kuomintang received 1.66 million votes (33%).
