From February 24 to March 3, the eight runners will participate, in Senegal, in the 2024 edition of Sénégazelle, a solidarity and 100% feminine running race because in Senegalese culture, it is women who transmit education, recalls Cathy Drilleaud, one of them.

Their destination, the Siné-Saloum region, on the border with Gambia. On the program, five days of racing, around ten kilometers each day, to deliver school supplies to five schools, where workshops will also be organized with parents and children.

40 kg of supplies per person

Several collections of school materials have already taken place. Our goal is to distribute 40 kg of supplies each, says Cathy.

The ES Gazelles, an association that they created for the occasion, is therefore launching an appeal for the generosity of the public: four-color pens, paper and colored pencils, notebooks, erasers, pencil cases, scissors, glue, pencil sharpeners , rulers, compasses, protractors, squares, brushes, paint… Supplies can be dropped off in the town halls of Échiré and Saint-Gelais, ideally before the end of January.

We finance our stay ourselves and do not seek any financial assistance. Our supporters help us collect school materials, explains Cathy Drilleaud.

Among these supports, that of the Vouillé primary school. A batch of supplies will be given to L’ES Gazelles on January 19 by the school’s 210 students. And the association seems set to last. The eight friends are already planning to repeat the adventure in 2025.
