For 2024, no major retirement reforms. However, changes which concern in particular the amount of the pension, small pensions or even multiple employment for retirees are to be expected.

Increase in basic pension

With the increase in the retirement age and therefore the increase in the number of quarters necessary to retire with the full rate, it is the generation born in 1962 who will be able to consider retirement in 2024, as indicated by Valérie Batigne, director of the specialist firm Sapiendo retirement, “ Barring exceptions, she will therefore have to wait 62 years and 6 months to cease her activity and to have contributed 169 quarters to benefit from the full rate. “, she specifies.

From January 2024, the basic pension will increase by 5.3%. However, to benefit from it, you will have to wait until February 9, the date on which the basic pension for the month of January will be paid. Supplementary pension plans are also affected by the changes. Last November, the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension was increased by 4.9%. Civil service contract workers will be affected by the change with an increase identical to that of the basic pension, i.e. 5.3%.

Among the pension reform measures which will be applied in 2024: the revaluation of pensions for workers who have had a full career paid at the minimum wage. In 2023, nearly 500,000 retirees will benefit from an increase of around 50 euros per month. In total, 1.7 million retirees should benefit from this increase.

End of the Agirc-Arrco penalty and revaluation for small pensions

As explained by Capital.fr, the principle of the Agric-Arrco % penalty applies when you retire as soon as you reach the full rate age, leading to a 10% reduction in your supplementary pension for three years. To avoid it, you have to work one more year. The good news is that this penalty will be eliminated from April 1, 2024. This measure will particularly concern new retirees from December 1, 2023.

Concerning the Agirc-Arrco small pensions, the government asked the social partners to participate in the increase in these pensions. The objective is to reach 85% of the minimum wage by adding the basic pension with the supplementary pension, the aim being to reach 1,200 euros net per month.

In 2024, when a retiree decides to return to professional activity, their contributions will allow them to create new rights. Once this second activity has stopped, the person concerned will retire a second time. In addition, this system for the basic pension will also apply to the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension.
