To concoct unique and highly desirable cars, you can count on Porsche. The German firm has just given another good proof of this with the 718 Spyder RS, a car that we must qualify as the ultimate Boxster.
The RS treatment is not new to Porsche, as we saw it on the 718 Cayman GT4. He is now on loan at the Boxster. It includes the 4.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, a block that offers 493 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque with this model. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is paired with it. This allows a 0-97 km/h time of 3.2 seconds.

Aesthetically, aficionados will recognize the nose of the Caymant GT4 RS which allows more air to enter the cooling devices without having too great an impact on aerodynamics. The lower section is made of carbon fiber and the fins at the ends of the front bumper add downforce. Instead of the prominent rear spoiler of the GT4 RS, the Spyder variant is equipped with a spoiler that takes the shape of a duck tail.
As for the soft top, it consists of two parts and is 16 pounds lighter than the regular variant’s top.

As for Porsche’s Active Suspension System (PASM), it comes standard with the model, as does the mechanical torque-vectoring limited-slip rear differential. Cayman GT4 suspension components were also reused. Porsche specifies that the driving of this Spyder version will be a little more focused on comfort than that of the Cayman GT4, which is in line with the experience that we generally seek with a convertible.

On board, the approach remains minimalist. The carbon fiber bucket seats are designed to offer maximum lateral support, but remain very adjustable for finding a good driving position.
In total, this Spyder RS livery is 59 pounds lighter, but if you want to reduce the weight further (figures to come), the Weissach package is available as an option. It adds carbon fiber to the hood, side air scoops, and rear spoiler Gurney flap. This group can also be supplemented with forged magnesium rims.
The 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS will be presented during the festivities organized by Porsche in June in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the brand’s sports cars, then at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is held in England from July 13 to 16.
It will be offered from spring 2024 at a price of $188,800 in Canada.
