2024 Playwright Scholarships in Austria: Application Guidelines and Deadline

To support Austrian playwrights, the Literature Department of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport has provided ten playwright scholarships. Applications can be submitted by authors who have Austrian citizenship or have their permanent residence in Austria.

Authors who received the project scholarship for the years 2022/23 and 2023/24, i.e. who received the scholarship for a continuous 24 months, cannot apply for a long-term scholarship once more until 2025.

The duration of the scholarships is six months, starting on July 1, 2024. They are endowed with € 9,000 each.

The application must be submitted in four copies to Department IV/A/5 by February 23, 2024 at the latest. In addition, the completed “funding application” (simple) must be enclosed.

The application must contain the following documents:

Completed funding application (PDF, 295 KB) Curriculum vitae List of works and performances List of prizes and awards Project description and work plan with information on the status of the project, the planned scope and the intended completion (max. 3 pages) Work samples from the planned project (max. 20 Pages)

Please include the first and last name as well as the designation “Dramatist scholarship“. No liability is assumed for the documents submitted. The documents will not be returned. Applications that are not submitted on time or applications with incomplete documents cannot be considered. The postmark applies.

Plays in the children’s and youth theater category must be submitted to the Mira Lobe scholarship.

The scholarship holders are selected by a jury.

All applicants will be informed in writing of the results of the selection meeting at the end of June 2024, and the members of the jury will also be announced at the same time.

If the work, the completion of which was financed with a dramatist grant, is performed on an Austrian stage, a maximum loss of royalties liability of €2,600 will be granted.
