Climbing gold medallist Veddriq Leonardo said his achievement at the 2024 Olympics was an additional motivation for him to compete at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States.
After being received by President Joko Widodo along with other Indonesian athletes competing in the Olympics at the Merdeka Palace Yard in Jakarta, Thursday (16/8), Veddriq admitted that Indonesia’s achievement in winning gold for the “speed climbing” category in the sport of rock climbing was superior to that of other countries.
“We are superior to leading countries such as America (United States) and China, that gives me additional motivation for the 2028 LA Olympics,” said Veddriq as reported by BetweenThursday (16/8).
Veddrig appreciated the support from the Indonesian audience when the men’s speed rock climber won the gold medal.
He also shared his impressions when he arrived at the athlete village and joined other top athletes.
The atmosphere in the Paris athletes’ village, said Veddriq, further increased his motivation to compete in the world sports tournament.
“The atmosphere is very extraordinary, we can join elite athletes, whose achievements are indeed extraordinary. Very inspiring and there it gives additional motivation for me, who will compete in the Olympics,” said Veddriq. (Z-6)
