2024 is the year of NATO and the European Union, the Song Festival, the year of diplomats Lozoraičiai

The year 2024 was declared as the year of NATO and the EU to mark the 20th anniversary of Lithuania’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union, and the year of the Song Festival to commemorate the centenary of this tradition.

The year 2024 was declared as the Year of Diplomats Lozoraičiai, marking the anniversaries of three diplomats of the same family – Minister of Foreign Affairs Stasios Lozoraitis Sr., Lithuanian Diplomatic Representative in Washington Stasios Lozoraitis Jr. and Lithuania’s Representative to the Holy See Kazios Lozoraitis.

Last year, the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, head of the Lithuanian diplomatic service S. Lozoraitis Sr. was celebrated, and this year – the 100th anniversary of the birth of S. Lozoraitis Jr., the Lithuanian diplomatic representative in Washington. This year also marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of Lithuania’s representative to the Holy See, K. Lozoraitis.

The Seimas has already made a decision regarding the important anniversaries in 2025 – they have been declared the year of Motiejas Kazimiers Sarbievijas and the creators of Baroque literature, Mikalojas Konstantinas Čiurlionis, ANBO Aircraft and Lithuanian Aviation.

The significance of Baroque literature in Lithuania will be celebrated in conjunction with the 400th anniversary of Motiejas Kazimiers Sarbievijas’ poetry collection “Three Lyrical Books”, as well as the 150th anniversary of the birth of the painter, composer Mikalojas Konstantinas Čiurlionis and the 100th anniversary of the construction of the airplane ANBO.

The year 2026 has been declared the year of Bishop Motiejas Kazimieros Valančius of Žemaica, Lithuanian Radio and the Lithuanian Helsinki Group.

Each year, by a resolution of the Seimas, important anniversaries are set aside, the Government approves their commemoration programs and provides funding. A maximum of three commemorative years may be published per year.
