What’s Happening in Carrara?
Get your tennis rackets ready, folks! The 2024 Gold Coast Tennis International is about to kick off its main draw matches tomorrow, Tuesday 26 November 2024, at the KDV Sport in Carrara. After a weekend of qualifiers that was probably even more tense than waiting for your partner to decide what to eat for dinner, we’re getting a stellar lineup of talent. Yes, folks, it’s not just for the love of the game, but the love of being on a court where the sun shines and you can’t hear your ex shouting at the TV!
Star Power on Court: Daria Saville
Joining the ladies’ draw is none other than our own superstar, Daria Saville, currently the No. 2 woman in Australia. This season, she’s been heating things up like a barbecue in July—making headlines at the 2024 Paris Olympics and dazzling us all at the Billie Jean King Cup. Ranked world No. 120, Saville’s on a mission to bag a spot back in the top 100 and she’s not just taking it lightly. With her first main-draw singles win at Wimbledon in six years under her belt and over half her matches this year being wins, Saville’s proving to be as unstoppable as an email from your boss on a Friday afternoon!
The Dynamic Duo: Saville and Saville
But wait! There’s more Saville to talk about! Daria’s husband, Luke Saville, is also entering the fray as the eighth seed in the Men’s Draw. This couple could practically set up a tennis academy with the combined talent—and possibly clash over who takes control of the remote! Luke has graced the singles main draw at the prestigious All England Club three times. Talk about couple goals; they could teach us all a thing or two about teamwork—like who’s better at serving coffee in the morning!
ASCENDING STARS: Priscilla Hon
Stepping into the spotlight alongside them is Priscilla Hon, fresh off her recent victory at the Caloundra Pro Tour, entering the main draw as fourth seed. Young, talented, and eager, she’s just what we need to keep this tournament young and spunky! Audiences can’t wait to see if she lives up to the hype or if this will be her episode of “What Not to Do in Tennis.”
Men’s Highlight: Blake Ellis
Let’s not forget about the men! Our top seed, Blake Ellis, has just claimed victory at the Brisbane Pro Tour and seems set to bring us some smashing shots. This boy has been so excellent lately he’s like a chef serving up a five-course meal, and we’re here for every single delight!
