Elections 2024 If elections were to be held today, it is the far-right party Vlaams Belang which would emerge victorious in Flanders by winning 27.5% of the votes, according to a poll by the newspapers Gazet van Antwerpen and Het Belang van Limburg published Monday. The N-VA comes 2nd, at 21.3%, followed by Vooruit (13.2%).
Conducted between November 23 and 28 among a representative sample of 1,000 Flemish people, this survey predicts a jump of 9 percentage points for Vlaams Belang compared to the last regional elections in 2019.
The N-VA, for its part, would lose 3.5 percentage points. For Vooruit, 13.2% means a gain of 3.1 percentage points, even though previous polls have given him a better score. Monday’s poll was carried out a week following the resignation of the president of the Flemish Socialist Party, Conner Rousseau.
The 5% threshold
Furthermore, according to the Gazet van Antwerpen and Het Belang van Limburg poll, the CD&V would obtain 12.9% of the votes. The Open VLD (8.7%) and the PTB (8.5%) would be neck and neck, while Groen would come away with 6.9% of the votes. In the Antwerp constituency, the Open VLD might even fall below the electoral threshold of 5% (4.8%).
These latest results should be taken with a grain of salt, since the poll’s margin of error amounts to 3.02%. Investigators from the iVOX office also asked respondents regarding the personality they would see in the post of Prime Minister. Nearly a fifth of respondents (18.7%) favor the president of the N-VA, Bart De Wever, followed closely by the current Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (17.5%). Vlaams Belang President Tom Van Grieken (9.7%), Vooruit Deputy Prime Minister Frank Vandenbroucke (5.5%), and Conner Rousseau (5.3%) complete the top five.
