2024 Election Campaign, Gérard Depardieu Controversy, and Corruption Investigation: Hot Topics with Julien Bal

2023-12-13 19:59:00

This Wednesday, December 13, Julien Bal was surrounded by several debaters who came to address hot topics in the news: Gérard Depardieu, the start of the electoral campaign and the end-of-year celebrations. Nawal Bensalem, deputy editor-in-chief of DH, Ahlame Lanaya, expert in tender procedures and Bruno Coppens, comedian were around the table.

To begin, the columnists discussed the launch of the campaign for the various elections of 2024. Minister-President Elio di Rupo (PS) is invited to give a conference tomorrow at UMons. A university professor promises a bonus to the students who will be present at this meeting. “I find it scandalous,” comments Nawal Bensalem before continuing: “It’s a bold move from Di Rupo who shouldn’t even be resurrected since he’s here and running for the European elections.”

The debaters also mentioned another topical subject: Gérard Depardieu returning to Belgium. After the broadcast of the program Complément d’Enquête in which Gérard Depardieu made inappropriate remarks, several TV channels decided to suspend the broadcast of films starring the French actor or produced by him. “We always say ‘should we separate the man from the artist?’, but can we still watch the film ‘Les Valseuses’ knowing what it now says regarding women? It’s a lot less funny” comments comedian Bruno Coppens.

To end the show, Julien Bal questioned his guests on the financing of consultants by Belgium, highlighted by an investigation carried out by the IPM Investigation department. Claude Archer, co-founder of transparencia.be and Frédéric Loore, coordinator responsible for the IPM investigation pole, came to discuss this subject. For Claude Archer, “there is a case of corruption for which an investigation is being carried out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, that is to say that civil servants are bribed by offering them three times their salary to work at Deloitte”.
