1. Salary indexation

From January 1, 2024, around 600,000 workers, mainly in sectors such as food trade and logistics, will benefit from a pay increase. This increase results from an annual indexation set by collective agreement. A concrete example is that of an administrative employee who will see his salary increase by 40 euros per month. This measure, reintroduced following a period of stopping indexation, aims to maintain the purchasing power of households in the face of inflation, as Pierre-Yves Dermagne, Minister of the Economy, explains in a press release.

2. Protection once morest energy contract scams

We are going to attack the signatures of energy contracts obtained aggressively. Door-to-door canvassing is now regulated, offering consumers a 3-day reflection period before signing a contract. A measure which aims to put an end to abusive canvassing practices and which offers increased protection to vulnerable people.

3. Reduced mortgage processing fees

Mortgage processing fees, which have reached excessive levels according to the minister, are seeing a significant drop. Going from 500 euros to 350 euros from January 1, 2024, the new measure aims to facilitate access to property.

Credit institutions are now forced to justify their costs. This reduction particularly benefits borrowers, making the acquisition of property more accessible.

4. End of lost leave

From January 1, 2024, sick days occurring during vacation periods will no longer be counted as annual leave. This reform offers workers the possibility of deferring their vacation days in the event of interruptions linked to illness or an accident. It also guarantees guaranteed pay for sick workers during their annual vacation.

5. A raised compensation ceiling for natural disasters

Following the deadly floods of 2021, the government is acting to strengthen the protection of citizens in the event of natural disasters. “If such a catastrophic episode were to recur tomorrow, I want the citizen to be fully compensated,” explains Pierre-Yves Dermagne.

The insurers’ intervention ceiling therefore increases to 1.6 billion euros, thus quadrupling its previous limit. Please note that discussions are underway to define interventions beyond this ceiling without compromising small insurance companies or leading to excessive increases in premiums.
