ALGIERS – The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) awarded Friday in Algiers its Prizes for the year 2024, for institutions or personalities having made “exceptional contributions” to the gas sector, the first prize of which went to the national hydrocarbon company, Sonatrach.

During a ceremony held at the “Abdellatif Rahal” International Conference Center (CIC), chaired by Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, at the end of the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Forum, in anticipation of the 7th summit, scheduled for Saturday in Algiers, the second prize of the Forum went to the Iranian Petroleum Research Institute.

The third prize was won by the Emirati oil company Adnoc.

In the personality category, the GECF distinguished the Algerian Ali Hached, expert and energy, former vice-president of Sonatrach.

He also distinguished, in the same context, the Russian Denis Lonov, advisor to the GECF.

Mr. Hamel indicated that these distinctions symbolized “the GECF’s commitment to the development of the gas industry and constitute recognition of these institutions and personalities for the efforts made in the field of energy.”

For his part, the CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, expressed “his gratitude and joy for the distinction awarded to the national company”, which reflects, according to him, “the consideration enjoyed by the group among its peers within the Forum”.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) awards prizes to moral or physical personalities at each summit, in tribute to the remarkable efforts or achievements made for the development of the gas industry.
