Today, March 13th (Wednesday), Weather News announced the “6th Cherry Blossom Forecast” for 2024. Cherry blossoms in 2024 are likely to bloom at or earlier than normal years, and cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in Tokyo and Hiroshima next week on March 20th (Wednesday), the vernal equinox.
We predict the blooming date based on more than 2 million cherry blossom reports submitted by Sakura Project participants over the past 20 years, original interviews with famous places, and observation results such as temperature and weather forecasts. Please use this as a reference during the cherry blossom viewing season.
Flowering is expected to occur in Nagoya on March 23rd and in Osaka on March 25th.

Due to the return of cold weather in early March, the growth of cherry blossoms in preparation for blooming has stalled, and the cherry blossoms are progressing at a pace regarding a week slower than last year. Temperatures are expected to be warmer than average over the coming week, with highs expected to reach near 20°C by the weekend. Although there will be a temporary return to cold weather from the middle of next week, it is expected to be warmer than normal once more by the end of the month. For this reason, the buds will grow quickly over the next week, and although there will be a slight stagnation at one point, it is likely that the warm weather from the end of the month will encourage flowering.
Cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in Tokyo and Hiroshima next week on Wednesday, March 20th. Fukuoka, Kochi, and Nagoya will follow on the 23rd (Saturday). It blooms in various parts of western and eastern Japan during March, and it also begins to bloom in southern Tohoku. A cherry blossom front will make landfall in Hokkaido in late April, and the cherry blossoms are expected to bloom in Hakodate on April 22nd.

Particularly in northern Japan, the cherry blossoms arrive a week or more earlier than usual, so it’s best to make your cherry blossom viewing plans early.
