Pakistan cricket team’s participation in the 2023 World Cup in India later this year is yet to be confirmed. As with all India-Pakistan matters, Babar Azam and his cohorts needed government permission to travel to India. A decision in this regard is expected to be taken on Thursday.
A 14-member committee will meet on Thursday to discuss Pakistan’s cricket team’s participation in the World Cup. It is believed that India’s refusal to go to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup is unlikely to hinder the arrival of the Pakistan team in India. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf had sent a letter to the Pakistan Prime Minister seeking permission last week.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a committee to take a decision on the matter. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf will also attend the meeting chaired by External Affairs Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The committee will send recommendations to the Prime Minister, who will give final instructions on World Cup participation.
Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has admitted that there will be some changes in the 2023 World Cup schedule. The India-Pak match scheduled for October 15 has been shifted to October 14. However, the venue will not change. Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium will host the match.
