The 2023 Jacques-Louis Lions prize is awarded to Laurent DESVILLETTES, professor at Paris Cité University, IMJ-PRG laboratory, and member of the IUF.
Laurent Desvillettes studies partial differential equations from the natural sciences. In particular, he obtained original results for the Boltzmann equation for rarefied gases. This work also focuses on parabolic equations and systems presenting singularities, such as the Landau equation describing collisions between charged particles, and reaction-diffusion and cross-diffusion systems involved in population dynamics.
The Academy pays tribute to him during the awards ceremony under the Dome of the Institut de France, on November 21, 2023.
