Vehicle prices increased further in 2023, whether new or used, reaching a new record. However, the offer on offer has been growing on the four-wheel market, the Autoscout24 platform noted on Tuesday.

The prices of new vehicles have increased by 5% and those of used vehicles by 4% over the last twelve months on the platform. In 2023, prices reached a new record: a new car cost on average 60,000 francs and a used one 37,000, details a press release.

Except for the minivan category which recorded an increase of more than 12%, all other models showed a moderate increase in a range of 1% to 5%.

By type of propulsion, new gasoline cars experienced the largest increase with +12%, compared to 10% for electric cars and 6% for plug-in hybrids.

Online ads also on the rise

Concerning the offer, all body segments and fuel types combined saw it stronger. The number of online ads increased by 9% compared to 2022.

For the first time since 2019, the supply of new vehicles increased by 13% to 122,140 units. “This greater availability offers greater choice and might also be a sign of a drop in prices in the coming months,” underlines Autoscout 24 director Alberto Sanz de Lama.

In 2023, the number of new vehicle registrations increased by around 12% year-on-year, and more than 750,000 vehicles changed owners. A level lower than 2019 but which sends a positive signal of recovery in the Swiss automobile market, according to Autoscout 24.
