Israel emerged victorious from this duel of rookies in the quarter-finals, winning by the narrowest of margins following a penalty shootout. Daniel Peretz stopped Giogi Gagua’s shot on goal before Saba Khvadagiani does not send his own to the semi-finals.

Peretz’s decisive save

The future winners of this quarter made the best start, offering themselves the first situations, but sometimes lacked address, a constant in a meeting which saw the goalkeepers highlight. Omri Gandelman came close to opening the scoring in the second half, his attempt finding the uprights, following Giorgio Mamardashvili emerged victorious from their head-to-head in front of a record crowd of 44,338 spectators.

Israel will face Portugal or England in the semi-finals on Wednesday in Batumi.

Player of the match: Daniel Peretz

The stat. – Israel will play the third semi-final of a UEFA competition in its history twelve months following that of the EURO U19, the first and only previous time having been disputed so far in 1996 by the U16s.

Spain 2-1 (aet) Switzerland

Spain thought they had done the hardest part in 90 minutes, but Zeki Amdouni caused La Rojita to have to redouble their efforts to snatch their place in the last four.

For a long time the men of Santi Denia controlled the game. If the chances were actually quite rare, they were always in favor of a Rojita who thought she had done the hardest part by opening the scoring in the middle of the second half. Qualification seemed in the pocket until a final Swiss incursion perfectly concluded by Zeki Amdouni in the 92nd minute.

It was therefore necessary to resort to an extension, which saw Spain take the lead through Miranda and this time, resist a Swiss comeback. Spain will face either France or Ukraine next Wednesday.

Player of the Match: Sergio Gomez

The stat. – Spain reach their eleventh semi-final of a EURO U21, only Italy, with 12, have done better.
